About Casa Doriana

Casa Doriana is at 14 Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III, Cannobio. It is situated on the lakeside promenade directly opposite Lago Maggiore. The apartments which make up Casa Doriana are on the third floor of a palazzo that was originally Cannobio’s town hall. The 350-year old building was the target of Austrian cannon fire from the lake in 1859 during the Second Italian War of Independence. A cannon ball from the Austrian navy's bombardment of Cannobio on March 27 and 28, 1859 still hangs from the building’s facade.

Climbing the wide stone stairs takes you to an inner courtyard typical of local Italian architecture where residents used to hang washing, do their daily chores and enjoy a little town gossip. One is led back in time to the life of a simple fishing village and can for a few days experience what it is like to live in a lively Italian community on the shores of this beautiful lake.

The first apartment has a view of the main piazza and Lago Maggiore. The next door apartment has a view of a square and alleyway in Cannobio's quaint old town.
